Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Afterwell a law firm or financial institution?

No. Afterwell is an organizational and assistance platform. It does not provide legal advice, does not act as an executor or estate representative, and is not a financial institution or government agency. For legal questions, we recommend speaking with an attorney — a referral option is planned for the future.

Does Afterwell find every account automatically?

No. Afterwell's assistant, Julia, helps identify possible recurring accounts from bank statements you upload. Every result is labeled as a possible match and requires your review — bank activity alone can't confirm who owns an account, whether it's still active, or whether it can be transferred.

What happens to my bank statements?

Statements are uploaded directly to secure storage, analyzed for possible recurring accounts, and then deleted — typically within minutes. An automatic failsafe ensures deletion even if something goes wrong during processing.

Will anything be sent or cancelled without my approval?

No. Julia can prepare drafts — for example, a cancellation request or a request for information about transferring airline miles — but nothing is sent until you explicitly review and approve it.

What happens to photos I upload?

Photos are kept private by default and are available for seven days after import unless you choose extended storage. You can organize them into albums and download a ZIP archive at any time during that window.

Can more than one family member use Afterwell for the same person?

Yes. Afterwell is built around Households, so authorized family members and advisors can collaborate on the same Loved One's information, with permissions based on their role.
